Jeremiah 6:16

Thus says the Lord: Stand in the ways and see, and ask for the old paths where the good way is, and walk in it; Then you shall find rest for your souls.

Ephesians 2:8-9

It is by grace you have been saved, through faith – and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God – not by works, so that no one can boast.
— Ephesians 2:8-9

Thoughts on today’s verse

Don’t you love gifts! When they’re truly given, with no strings attached, all we have to do is receive them. The greatest gift we’ve ever received has nothing to do with our efforts. It is a gift from God. We didn’t earn it, deserve it, or purchase it. God gave it through His Read more →

Sleepwalking

So be on your guard, not asleep like the others. Stay alert and be clearheaded.
— 1 Thessalonians 5:6
Have you ever gone sleepwalking? It is kind of scary, really—especially the next day when someone tells you what you did.

There are people in the church today who have gone to sleep. They are not watching the signs of the times. There is a lethargy, a passiveness—even a laziness—in some Christians. There is an apparent disconnect between their so-called spiritual lives and real lives. Instead of walking in the Spirit, some believers are sleepwalking.

We need to wake up. The Bible says, “So be on your guard, not asleep like the others. Stay alert and be clearheaded” (1 Thessalonians 5:6).

In other words, we need to wake up to the urgency of Read more →

The Third Heaven

I was caught up to the third heaven fourteen years ago. Whether I was in my body or out of my body, I don’t know–only God knows.
— 2 Corinthians 12:2

I read an article about a private foundation of astronomers and former astronauts who are building a space telescope that will orbit the sun and track the heavenly bodies that may threaten life on Earth. One of the astronauts was quoted as saying that in the first three weeks of operation, they would find more asteroids than have been found in the last 200 years.

But guess what they won’t find? The third heaven.

According to the Bible, there are three heavens. Paul writes about it in 2 Corinthians 12: “I was caught up to the third heaven fourteen years ago. Whether I was in Read more →

Psalm 19:14

May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer.
— Psalm 19:14

Thoughts on today’s verse

God does so much for us. He is the strength and promise that undergirds our lives. He is the one who has saved us from sin and death. Our worship comes from our gratitude for what he has done and recognition of who he is. But worship can never be compartmentalized and fit into church places or quiet times. Worship involves every aspect of life. That is why it is so Read more →

Romans 12:2

Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is — his good, pleasing, and perfect will.
— Jeremiah 29:11

Thoughts on today’s verse

Don’t be molded by the world. Wow, isn’t that a tough one to obey? It’s a reminder that what we think is one of the places of greatest spiritual warfare. Sloppy thinking is more than sloppy, it’s dangerous because we are fed messages constantly that distort God’s truth and holy values. But rather than being incensed by the world acting like the world, let’s be transformed by renewing our minds and Read more →
